Weekend Highlights

Well, well, well, where has the time gone?! It's Monday evening as I write this and I am just winding down from a whirlwind weekend that included: dinner and dirty martinis at 5A5, one of my dearest friend's baby's 1st birthday party {an awesome party with sangria and a slip n' slide - for adults}, a chance to catch-up with old friends, slumber parties, multi-course brunches and birthday shopping sprees - and, perhaps luckiest of all, I found out I won the Bandit giveaway over at Ruby Press PR!

What a fabulous weekend - I feel so lucky!

A Little Glitz

Love this mirrored staircase! I love how it ties together two of my favorite elements. How dreamy would it be to walk up and down those each day? It might even assuage my OCD reflex to count every stair as I walk.

It reminds me of this image which is also dear to my heart.

Seen here and here.

Old Soul New Heart

Joanna blogged about this new line of headbands this morning and I couldn't resist snagging one {an early birthday present for myself!}

It was hard to choose, but these little buttery rosettes won out.

This necklace is a winner too!

Sunday Suppers

This tabletop from Sunday Suppers is too gorgeous. The fresh flowers and all that wine...yum!

As is traditional in Italian families, my entire family {there are usually about 13 of us} meets for dinner on varying Sundays and it's one of my favorite things. I always leave feeling so full and whole {in more ways than one} and being surrounded by the people I love is a great start to my week.

Crazed

Sorry for being MIA today - I had a crazy day of meetings. I've been invited to the Giants game tonight! Let's hope they win as they make one of their last bids to make it to the playoffs this year.

Here's my roommate Amanda and me at the Giants/Dodgers game a few weeks ago. Who's got spirit?!

Blog Out Loud {The Recap}

Blog Out Loud was overflowing with awesomeness. My friend Kate and I arrived about 20 minutes early and got a parking spot right outside BellJar {good parking karma coming my way} so we were able to feel it out without being obviously stalker-like {I prefer subtle stalkery}.

Once we saw people arriving and checking in, we knew we were safe. I wasn't aware of this beforehand, but they were giving away gift bags to the first 20 people who arrived! Lucky us.

It was so rad to people watch as the place filled up! It was standing room only by the time the panel was introduced. The coolest part for me was seeing people whose blogs I've been reading for years. I will say I didn't learn that much. I think it was aimed at people new to blogging or looking to start their own blog and I pretty much spend my life reading blogs, I am familiar with the way things work, but that's not to say I didn't take anything from this event {other than being totally starstruck}.

My notes, for those who are interested are below. There was a videographer there and I know they plan to have video from the event up shortly, so you can check that out here.

How blogs help business:
-great ad method
-personalized way to sell products
-content compliments website
-promote, but don't overpromote
-link to product pages, e-commerce
-show passion for your product

Networking:
-commenting on other blogs
-Twitter/Facebook
-guest-blogging
-email vs. spam comments

Limited, but helpful. Especially the networking segment. The effort you put into connecting with another blogger cannot be emphasized enough. Make an effort! Be personal and likeable. Don't spam people to exchange links, to write about you, to visit your blog. Give them a reason to want to and the relationship you form might create something you might have never experienced otherwise.

Alice Lane

That headboard in my last post got me dreaming...I've been thinking of a bedroom upgrade {my current headboard is from Ikea - I'm sure a lot of you feel my pain} and I stumbled upon this beauty from Alice Lane.

Unfortunately they're all the way in Utah and shipping on furniture is out of this world, but I am tagging this for the future.

Lonny Magazine

Can this be true? Someone is attempting to fill Domino's shoes and I am excited! Lonny Magazine is set to launch in Fall '09 - that's soon!

The copy coming out of that sweet little typewriter reads:

In a time when shelter publications are turning their last pages...

By embracing an online platform we provide inspiration at the click of a finger, directly connecting our readers to their favorite products and resources. Our freedom from page limits means that we can share more content in each issue, delivering an intimate look into the way people really live.

At Lonny, we value independent thinking and believe not in following trends but rather in making choices that lead to happiness. We believe that good design and affordable design can coexist and that true inspiration can be found in the teeniest of homes or in the grandest of spaces.

New People {Japantown}

Japantown is one of San Francisco's most overlooked destinations. It has a serene quality to it that you don't find in other neighborhoods and it is rife with culture.

New People opened last weekend - it's the only place in the U.S. dedicated to Japanese pop culture {harajuku girls, anyone?}. It has floors dedicated to food, fashion, film, art and home design. Looks like a must-see!

Street Food {09}

Anyone else excited about this? There will be cheap food {between $3 and $8}, a scavenger hunt and a silent auction.

Hopefully the weather will play nice and it will be a great day!

Weekend Update

I just got back to SF this morning and am already fighting the urge to flee.

Wah wahhhhh.

That being said, my niece's birthday party was a bright spot in the weekend and my sister pulled it off beautifully. The Pimm's Cup was a success.

How was your weekend?

Pimm's Cup

When we went out for Megan's birthday a few weeks ago, we ordered two punch bowls of Pimm's Cup at Rickhouse.

I'd never had this British cocktail before, but it was so refreshing with a kick of spice. My sister are and I are aiming to recreate it for my niece's 3rd birthday party this weekend! Here's the recipe we're using:
  • 1/2 pint (6 ounces) strawberries, hulled and cut into quarters
  • 1 lemon, sliced into 1/8-inch rounds
  • 1 lime, sliced into 1/8-inch rounds
  • 1 orange (blood orange if possible), sliced into 1-inch wedges
  • 3 cups Pimm's No.1 Cup
  • 48 ounces lemon-lime soda, or ginger ale
  • 2 cucumbers, cut into 1/4-inch length
  • In large pitcher, place strawberries, lemons, limes, and oranges. Add Pimm’s, and mash down lightly with a large spoon. May be made 3 to 4 hours ahead up to this point.
  • Fill each glass halfway with ice. Add about 1/3 cup Pimm’s mixture. Fill glass with soda; stir. Place cucumber spear in each glass; serve.

Pure Italiano

In every sense of the word. Seen on The Sartorialist, naturally.

Don't ignore the shoes.

Studio On Fire

The vibrant color and delicate impressions on this set is giving me heart palipitations.

It could be my heart murmur, but I don't think so.

Blog Out Loud {SF}

I just saw this posted by coco+kelley and I could not be MORE EXCITED! Can you tell?

BellJar is one of my favorite shops ever and some of the bloggers leading the panel are those who really got me into blogging in the first place.

If any of you locals want to go {Amanda, Nicole, Holly, I'm looking at you!} RSVP and let's meet up before hand!

Dark & Steamy

Something a little dark and sultry to start your day.

Happy Weekend ♥

Happy Friday my loves. Hope you are all as excited for this weekend as I am!

We had all of our girls over last night and it was so much fun! We try to have a girls night every week if our schedules allow. One of us hosts and the rest bring wine. We eat, drink and giggle a LOT while dinner cooks. Last night there was some strobe light action a a lot of dancing!

I'm taking it easy this weekend. Lots of Mad Men to watch and some life housekeeping to tend to. What are your plans?

What To Wear {Gold Belt}

I recently purchased a skinny gold belt from Forever 21 for about $2. I love gold and I love belts, but I wasn't sure what I would wear it with.

Here's what I've come up with so far. Please excuse a) the poor quality of these shots, b) my messy room, c) the fact that I am brushing my teeth, and d) all of the above.

I am going to try to start doing more of these at Oh Hello. If you have any suggestions of accessories to incorporate, feel free to let me know!

My Faves {Elsewhere}

Thanks to Kelly for featuring my Faves of the Day over at Just a Girl in a City yesterday. Go here to see the rest.

Mad For Mad Men

I know I must be boring some of you to tears with this, but I couldn't help posting these!

There's a great feature you can read here. It touches on the real Don Draper {eeeee!}. I had to stop myself because I kept running across spoilers!

Vanity Fair Best Dressed 2009

Vanity Fair announced their 2009 International Best Dressed List! Below are some I thought deserved commentary.

Natalia Vodianova looked ethereal as ever.

Rachel Roy: Makeup is horribly garish, but I love the silhouette of her ensemble.

Lauren Bush: Natural beauty {thought I'm not loving her outfit in this particular picture, she is typically quite polished}.

Tory Burch: Always fresh and perfectly accesorized.

Brad Pitt: Is he wearing a light pink suit?

Mr. President: Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but we've seen what he wears when not in a suit. Mom jeans do not a best dressed man make.
