So, in my wee small town there's an annual Christmas on First Street. It's possible I've mentioned it here before. All the storefronts and vendors open their doors, carolers occupy every corner, people sip hot cider, kids run wild, and usually my dad can be found spinning cotton candy for a very long line of people. Oh, and another thing that happens is that my mega-tall boyfriend dresses up as an elf [in a custom made elf costume you see] and poses for photos with Santa and children of all ages. [It should be noted that he does this as a favor to a friend's mother, not on his own accord -- though I wouldn't put that past him either].

Well. Here we are again, aren't we? The truth is that I have missed blogging so much, but simply have not had the energy or bandwidth to churn out even the most pathetic of posts.

I started a new job two days after my last post [which was September 13th - ahem] and it has been so wildly fantastic and so overwhelmingly exhausting. I love it and could not feel more fortunate to be where I am. Oh, and I'm also freelancing most of my projects from my old job. You know, in my spare time.

I don't want to make any farfetched promises, but I miss my little creative corner of the internet and I hope to be spend some more time here in very near future. And without further ado, a little pistachio + black + gold home inspiration for you.

Checking In + Happy Saturday

Hey guys! Did you go into shock when you saw this post pop up in your reader? Or do I even have readers any more? I wouldn't blame you if I didn't.

You'll be happy to know I am taking Bri + Angela's blogshopSF course next weekend and I am hoping it will be just the push I need to get back in this blogging game. I've said it before, but the biggest reason I fell off the wagon is that I was tired of reblogging the same stuff I was seeing everywhere else. As much as this is a place for me to catalog things I love, I also want it to be an inspiring place where my readers can come for fresh, engaging content. See? I'm doing this for YOU! Ha.

The photo below is of one of my favorite little vignettes at my casa. Desserts For Breakfast

I feel like good old classic cakes have really had to take a backseat lately while trendy desserts take the stage. Cake pops? Blech. However, I think you'll all have to agree that no red velvet whoopie pie could steal the spotlight from this show stopper of a cake.

It's an oreo olallieberry chocolate layer cake and it was created by Stephanie from Desserts For Breakfast. I mean.... drippy chocolate ganache with GOLD FLECKS. Are you joking me?! If you look closely at the second photo you can see the gold in the (beautifully and naturally colored) frosting. Drool.

Homemade Rosewater Toner

I am the type of girl who does endless calculations (cost per wear, how many ways can I pair it, etc.) before making a big time clothing purchase. When it comes to skincare though, I seem to have no trouble splurging. You only get one face, right? And you better believe I am taking good care of this thing. So you'll understand why I was so stoked to come across Elizabeth Dehn and her blog Beauty Bets. She just launched her own skincare line and her blog is a bevy of beautification information.

One skincare trick that will not drain your bank account was this recipe for homemade rosewater toner.

Rosewater Toner

2 cups of fresh-picked rose petals
2 1/4 cups distilled water
1/4 cup witch hazel (optional)

1. Place petals in a pot and pour distilled water over to cover.
2. Bring to a boil then immediately turn off the heat.
3. Remove pot from burner and cover. Let sit to cool, for about an hour.
4. Strain rosewater into a sterile container or spray bottle.
5. If your skin is combination or oily, add the witch hazel.

Rosewater is naturally clarifying, tightens pores and reduces redness. To use, moisten a cotton ball with the rosewater and swipe over clean skin before moisturizing. For a little more luxury, add the rosewater to a hot bath. This toner will keep for five days at room temperature, or two weeks in the fridge.

Here are some things I'd like to do in 2011:

Send my friends birthday cards. Like, in the mail.

Move around more. Sitting at a desk all day is NOT the business.

Have less road rage.

Work on a portfolio.

Spend more time with my grandparents {already do quite a bit of this, but...just sayin'}

Eat more cheese.

Learn to refinish furniture.

Consider a brick + mortar store.

Take at least 2 trips with my friends. One is already in the works! {Hello Orange County + Congrats to Nick and Margaret on their engagement!}
Be more dedicated to this poor, neglected blog.

Last, but most important and all-encompassing: Be fearless.

I've read so much lately about success and personal growth and how it's rarely the most talented or smartest person in the room who gets the attention/job/guy/whatever; It's the most fearless.

This year I will take leaps of faith {um, already done - more on that to come}, trust my intuition, go after what I deserve. I will not be complacent when it comes to my future.

I've been unplugged in the most glorious way {which is no small feat for me} and it's been the perfect way to round out my year—with quiet reflection.

2010 has been a great year for me. I've met so many people and had so many experiences through blogging that I might've missed out on if it had not been for all of you. So, thank you for that. This is such a wonderful community of like-minded people and I am beyond thrilled to have even the most miniscule place here.

So, This Happened

I've been meaning to fit this into a blog post for ages, but as you might've noticed, my blogging skills have been lacking lately.

So, without further ado, please see the photo of me with Holly from Zucchero, Zucchero! We met at the Anthology launch party last month. I told her earlier that I was going to stare creepily at her from across the room, but not only was she not having it, she was sweet enough to pose with me several times as my mother {who until recently used only her phone to take photos} fumbled with my camera.

Anyway! She was great! Pretty, funny, not awkward, and I really liked her voice. See? Creepy.

I know I've said this before, but fall brings out the best in clothes every single year. Rich textures, people actually put on MORE clothing {almost always a good thing} and everyone just classes it up a bit more.

Some things I am especially into this season: slouchy, over-the-knee socks, messy hair {okay, that's every season}, chunky glasses, mustard yellow, scarves, and clogs {yes, clogs!}

So basically, what I am telling you all is that Madewell is bringing the heat this season.

Another whirlwind week gone by and here we are in a different month! I swear October is a blur of work + baseball playoffs and while I am elated beyond words that the Giants won the freakin' World Series {pictures to come - I was lucky enough to attend a game + the parade celebratory parade!}, I'm also relieved that it's over. No more excuses for spending hours upon hours in bars. No more excuses for skipping the gym day after day. Time to get serious before the holidays arrive! Eeek!

Happenings at Oh, Hello!

Okay, since I've been embarrassingly absent in the blog world, here's a quick recap of what's been going on in my world!

In no particular order:

- I got promoted {a huge reason for my extended absence!}

- I had the honor of meeting and having dinner with Jeanine from AphroChic, Erin from Design for Mankind and several more beautiful + inspiring women.

- I turned 26! {Okay, that happened a while ago -- I know I still owe you pictures}

- I went to Vegas + attended TWO more weddings {seven down, one more to go!}

- I spotted Ali from The Bachelorette at The Tipsy Pig {her hair was much darker and shorter sans extensions - shocker}

- I had an impromptu sleepover with my mama last weekend! We did fleet week, Taqueria Cancun, La Boulange, Therapy, Candystore Collective, Bell Jar + more in a twelve hour period - phew!

- I've watched the Giants win the NL West and advance to the NLCS. My manicure + stress levels really can't take much more. {trivia fact/conflict of interest: my cousin once removed is a starting pitcher for the Texas Rangers who just advanced to the ALCS - go CJ!}

- I've started beach cruisin' on Sunday afternoons with my boy and another couple - good times!

- I saw a play at the American Conservatory Theater - it is GORGEOUS inside. The play was okay, too.

- I'm getting a new roommate {Oh, HELLO Kate!}

- I guest-blogged over at sfgirlbybay - quite an honor!

- I started a beginners running program. As in outside. As in...I'm running and not because someone is chasing me! It's going really well so far - thanks for asking. I've noticed the subtle camaraderie between other runners and I have to tell you how amazing it is to rediscover this city from a different vantage point.

- Remember that photo shoot with Mrs. Lilien that I alluded to weeks ago? Well, the big reveal is coming soon! Stay tuned!

'Ello doves! Here's a little sneak peek at the weekend birthday festivities. I had a perfectly lovely day and was greeted after work by my boyfriend wielding champagne and an iPad! I just about keeled over from happiness.

Tomorrow morning I'm heading up to Napa to celebrate with a hyper-fem pool party! Think homemade photo booth, fresh strawberry cupcakes, metallic balloons, disco balls and free-flowing champagne...you get the idea.

It's going to be a bash to remember! Pictures will follow. Hoping you all have an over-the-top Labor Day weekend!

Well, well, well, look what we have here. It's SEPTEMBER and my birthday is tomorrow! I've been mentally drafting a review of my 25th year, but haven't decided whether to actually write and post it. There are only so many emo posts one can handle, y'know?

Yin & Yang

After a week of flying high, feeling energized, inspired, and refocused on what I want in life, I had a week where I repeatedly had the wind knocked out of me {figuratively of course}, my feelings hurt and just a generally blech time. Yin and yang.

So often we only put our best foot forward on our blogs. And why not? Who wants to dwell on the negative or be the Debbie Downer of the internet? Not I! I so cherish this little corner of the internet, the people I've met, the opportunities it has afforded me. No, this is not a goodbye post, not at all. I just think that every once in a while, we should all check in to the reality of yin and yang and realize that the reason we are able to experience and appreciate moments and lifetimes of such great happiness is because we have the darker moments against which we can compare.

Phew, I feel better. I'd be thrilled to hear your thoughts {if you have any} on the subject. Here's to a happy and fulfilling weekend, xx.

Last week I was lucky enough to act as a styling assistant at a photo shoot {more about this later} with the amazingly prolific and supremely talented Mrs. Lilien. She brought in Joy of Oh Joy for some creative direction and well, to say I was starstruck would be an understatement. I won't embarrass myself by going into total swoon mode, but meeting and getting to know these women, bouncing ideas and major life changes off of them over dinner was one of the most invigorating, motivating experiences ever.

Anyway! Joy's wallpaper line for Hygge & West has just launched as has the book she co-authored with Meg Mateo Ilasco {also a super cool, down to earth woman}. Quite a week! I just received my copy in the mail and am so looking forward to reading it tonight.

I know the phrase "pops of color" is overused in the blogosphere, but I can't help but be drawn to these, um, bursts of robin's egg blue in the spaces below. Colored stair runners are a super simple way to add some oopmh to your home, not to mention that a bar area is one of my top priorities when I move into a bigger space.

Vogue Italia ran an editorial clearly inspired by the gulf coast oil spill. Do you think it's controversial or just art imitating life? Out context the photos are a bit haunting, they're also darkly beautiful. In context they leave the viewer with a hint of unease and a bit of hollow shock {for me, anyway}.

Do you enjoy seeing spreads like these in fashion magazines or is it a little too real for your taste?

Smashed Blackberry

I've been trying to cool it on the drinking lately {between back to back weddings and birthdays it's too much! I have a youth to preserve here people!}, but I miiiiiight have to make an exception for this delectable little treat. Thanks to Melissa for bringing it to my attention. See below for the deets.

Blackberry Smash
2 tbsp coarse sugar
2 1/2 tbsp lime juice
8-10 fresh mint leaves
1 1/2 oz. Chambord
1 oz. Jack Daniels Whiskey
Handful of fresh blackberries
Club soda
Muddle the sugar, lime juice and 6-8 mint leaves for about 30 seconds or about 8 twists of the muddler. Add the Chambord and whiskey and muddle for another 8 twists or so of the muddler. Shake over ice and pour with the ice into a tall glass. Mix in the blackberries and fill the rest of the glass with club soda. Add remaining mint as garnish.

Hello friends, it's been a while hasn't it? I took some time off last week to prepare for a weekend birthday getaway for my boyfriend. He turned 28 on Monday {everyone wish him a happy belated birthday!} and we rented a house on the delta to celebrate with his friends. It was a great time, but it also made me wonder if maybe I am getting too old for such things...Never!

Ten reasons I am crazy about this guy:

1. We've been best friends for years {and years and years} but only started dating 8 months ago. Timing is everything!

2. Not only is he a great guy to me, he is an amazing friend to ALL of his friends and would do just about anything for anyone.

3. He has an undying, slightly strange love for everything Elvis. Example: he has a "Welcome to Graceland" banner in his living room left over from a birthday party he had for Elvis last January...need I say more?

4. He is so skilled at carpentry of any kind that when I ask, "Will you make me a custom headboard?" it's done that very weekend.

5. He's a guy's guy. I have a newfound appreciation for this.

6. He doesn't have facebook, will never understand Twitter and checks his email about once a month. {He'll also likely never see this blog post}

7. He and his older sister still fight like kids, but I can tell he loves her something fierce. This matters.

7.a. My heart melts watching him play with his 22-month-old nephew.

8. He hates feet with the fire of a thousand suns, but rubs mine without my asking.

9. He is always the life of the party.

10. He loves me.

Two Tone

I've been thinking about two-tone hair for some time now. There's just something so glam about the way celebrities pull off 6-inch+ roots. I've been considering going back to my natural hair color, but as anyone who has dyed their hair knows, it can be a long and daunting road.

My personal hair dye endeavors began with a mischievous cousin and bottle of Sun-In when I was 12 {sorry mom!}, so there'd be quite a bit of history {I mean hair dye} to undo. What do you think? Does it look okay as long as you keep some highlights in the front?

There's Something About...Caroline Sieber

After seeing and wondering and wondering and seeing Caroline Sieber all over the internet and beyond, I had to do a little roundup {she's Austrian, lives in London and is acting muse to Karl Lagerfeld - impressed yet?}.

She catches a lot of flak online {who doesn't?} for not being traditionally pretty, but there's something about her that I can't quite put my finger on. Maybe that's her allure. That, and I can relate to having huge brown eyes that scare people from time to time.

Last night my roommate Lindsey and I were discussing our justification of spending exorbitant amounts of money on random purchases and today I came across these beauties here. Coincidence? I think not!

I've spent an embarrassing amount of money on candles over the last few years. Packaging draws me in, but a lofty scent is what keeps me. I've found Pacifica and Voluspa are the best in terms of being true to their unlit scent while not making you feel like you're being bashed over the head with a bouquet. These from Kobo sure are pretty...when is the internet going to come up with a scratch and sniff feature?

Weekend Scenes... on a Friday

I'm not sure if I am even allowed to call these weekend scenes since I am posting them on a FRIDAY! But...here's what I've been up to lately.

I finally got to go to a fair this season last Friday in Marin. So much delicious (if trashy) food, awesome rides, even more awesome people-watching.

My older sister turned 31 on Monday! We all met in Napa at The Carneros Inn, had some cocktails while lounging in the pavilion at Farm and then had dinner at the Boon Fly Cafe. Yum!

Weekend Highlights

I know it's Wednesday, but...two of my favorite things from this weekend:

My ♥ came to SF {I usually come to him}. We hung out at Pier 23 and then Comstock {where I might have been the night before as well - don't tell anyone}.

The bartenders there are said to be some of the best in SF {hailing from Absinthe} and I'd be inclined to agree. They whipped up this fruitful Pimm's Cup for me and it was delish.
